Date of Birth:
Personal Details: Geoff was a farmhand in the Maungatautari district before the war. He was married to Mrs U.J. Ariell who lived in Mount Eden, Auckland.
Service Details: Geoff apparently served origianlly in the New Zealand Army. Cambridge airman Des Hooker recalls serving with Geoff in the Army before he himself switched to the RNZAF. he was not aware that Geoff had joined the RNZAF too. Geoff did see service overseas, leaving New Zealand in December 1941, presumably with the RNZAF. He returned to New Zealand on the Durban Castle in January 1946.
Details of Death: Geoff died tragically on the 31st of August 1955, when he electricuted himself by using a drill without a transformer. He was just 33
Buried at: Hautapu Cemetery, Cambridge
Connection with Cambridge: Geoff grew up in the Maungatautari district and joined the Army from Cambridge. It is noted that upon his death, Geoff's family sold their farm and left the Cambridge district, moving to Coromandel
Note: At this time I have no other information on Geoff Ariell. Local lady Maude Walker remembers that he joined the RNZAF. I am seeking more information on his RNZAF career.
