John served in the RAF for five years in places like Egypt and Palestine.

Date of Birth: Born in Liverpool, England
Personal Details: John was born and grew up in Liverpool. He served his apprenticeship as a bricklayer, but when war broke out he joined the Royal Air Force. At the end of the war in 1945 he married Miss Jean Stevenson, and in 1955 the pair moved to new Zealand. After a brief time living in Milton they shifted to Cambridge. He worked in the town as a bricklayer, till indifferent health forced him to give up this labour. He became a storeman and timekeeper for the Cambridge Power Board's office for two years, and six weeks before his death he suffered a severe heart attack, from which he was almost recovered when a second attack proved fatal. John was a keen angler and golfer and had been a member of Cambridge Lions Club.

He was survived by his wife and sons Joseph, David, Paul and Christopher, and four brothers, one in Canada and the others in Liverpool.

Buried at: The Returned Services Association Lawn Cemetery, Hautapu, Cambridge

Connection with Cambridge: John had moved to the town postwar and lived in Cambridge for over a decade.
