Service Details: Bob served in the Cambridge Flight of No. 7 Squadron, Air Training Corp for 15 months, during which he had was taken to RNZAF Station Ohakea to become a member of the Guard of Honour for the RAAF Avro Lancaster "Queenie VI" which was visiting New Zealand. On another occasion Bob had a flight in an RNZAF Tiger Moth from the Air Training Corps Flight up from Rongotai, taking off for the flight from RNZAF Station Rukuhia. He suffered a problem with giddiness during the flight and decided he would not become a member of aircrew. At the same time as being a member of the ATC, Bob also served as a motorcycle despatch rider in the Cambridge Home Guard Battalion.

Instead he joined the RNZAF as groundcrew and trained at the technical Training School, RNZAF Station Nelson, as a Flight Mechanic.

Bob went on to serve at RNZAF Station Bell Block, and then No. 1 Repair Depot, RNZAF Station Hamilton. He finished the war with the Storage Flight at RNZAF Station Rukuhia.
