Notes:

Admission to the show was free but there was a small charge for car parking in adjoining paddocks. Highlights of the show were a mini air race, and a strong Warbirds presence that was always guaranteed to attract the public. It was estimated that around 5,000 people enjoyed the day with a grand sum of $6,500 being donated to the PA-18 ZK-BSK restoration fund.

Thanks to Sue Campbell, Ivan Prince and Andrew Schooler for information on this airshow

Notes:

This display broke new ground with a display by an Air New Zealand Boeing 737-200. NZ Warbirds Harvard pilot John Peterson took part in the “Roaring Forties” formation team display before flying across to Auckland International and returning with the Boeing which he and his First Officer threw around the sky in a carefully rehearsed routine.

Thanks to Sue Campbell, Ivan Prince and Andrew Schooler for information on this airshow

Notes:

This airshow was sadly marred by the crash and death of Ian Reynolds in his Chipmunk during a display routine. RIP

The nine Tiger Moths flew as the Diamond Nine team for the first time in New Zealand, and opening the airshow

The Wellington Westpac Rescue BK-117 helicopter performed the first ever helicopter loop at a New Zealand airshow

This was the first New Zealand airshow to see a glider towed aloft by a helicopter

This was the first time ten Harvards had been seen in the air together at once in New Zealand since the type retired from the RNZAF

The Dakota ZK-DAK lead a special formation marking the 50th Anniversary of D Day with Bill Howell, Bob Tarr and Morris Craig aboard, leading the two Spitfires flown by Ray and Mark Hanna, and the two Mustangs flown by Graham Bethell and Trevor Bland.

Special Fighter Pilot Guests at this airshow included:
Air Vice Marshal Johnny Johnson
Air Commodore Jamie Jamieson
Group Captain Desmond Scott
Squadron Leader Jim Sheddan
Jim McCaw
Johnnie Houlton
Johnny Checketts
John Pattison
Jim McAuliffe (who flew Spitfire TB863 in WWII)

The Roaring Forties team for this airshow were John Lamont (Leader), Steve Taylor (No. 2), Ross Ewing (No. 3), John Peterson (No. 4) and Keith Skilling (No. 5); but I am not certain which aircraft each flew.

Notes:

Crowd numbers were about 4000 and then at precisely twelve noon the DHL Express Boeing 727 made a low pass as it headed from Auckland to Sydney.

Over the next four hours the public enjoyed 34 different aircraft. Displays ranged from Tiger Moths through to the Cessna Dragonfly light attack jet, and a pair of Dakotas to an Air New Zealand 737 in the brand-new livery.

Among the firsts for the country; a formation of Beechcraft 17 and Beechcraft 18, and two DC3s flying together in a synchronised display.
